NEW ISF Advanced Clinic/Course

 

 

 

WHAT?             ISF-NFCA INTERNATIONAL COACHES COLLEGE

§      The International Softball Federation has partnered with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) to create a brand new coaching course concept – The International Coaches College.

§      This 5 day coaching course is custom made for National Team level coaches and specializes in Offensive & Defensive Strategy, Hitting and Practice Concepts.

 

WHEN & WHERE?

 
                   THREE (3) TIMES IN 2005 WITHIN EACH OF THE FOLLOWING REGIONS, LOCATIONS & DATES:

(each course is the same, just repeated 3 times at of the following locations)

§      August 31-September 4, 2005 – (AMERICAS - ISF Headquarters, Plant City, FL)

§      December 8-12, 2005 – (EUROPE – Prague, Czech Republic)

§      December 15-19, 2005 – (ASIA – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia )

 

WHO?            COACHES ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND ARE THOSE AUTHROIZED BY THEIR NATIONAL FEDERATION/ASSOCIATION.

§      The content and level of information will be advanced and directed toward National Team Coaches (either head or assistant), primarily those that have participated in ISF World Championships and/or Olympic Games.

§      A coach must be authorized by their National Softball Federation or Association to be eligible to attend (this includes head & assistant national team adult and/or youth coaches as well as any elite club team coaches that the federation authorizes to attend).

§      Head Coaches as well as Assistant Coaches are eligible to attend if authorized by their National Federation.

§      Coaches of both Women’s AND Men’s teams are encouraged to attend.

(NOTE: These clinics/courses are always focused on covering the basic softball skills and do not allow time to go in-depth into the advanced strategy and hitting skills necessary for coaches and teams to improve their performance both regionally and internationally.

Course Content

5 days totaling:

34.5 hours of instruction,

Offensive Strategy – 16 hours

Defensive Strategy - 10 hours

Hitting - 5 hours

Practice - 5 hours

(within this time will be many hours devoted to drills and various practice examples)

Throwing – 0 hrs.

Fielding – 0 hrs.

Pitching – 0 hrs.

Bunting – 0 hrs

2-3 days totaling:

12-18 max. hours of instruction,

Fielding – 2  hrs

Throwing – 1 hour

Hitting – 3 to 4 hrs.

Pitching – 3 to 4 hrs.

Bunting – 1 hr.

Team Defense – 1 to 2 hrs.

Drills – 1to 4 hrs

Offensive Strategy – 0 hrs.

Defensive Strategy – 1 hr maybe

Practice Organization – 1 hr maybe

Written Material Provided?

200+ page manual detailing all material covered over the 5 days for each participant to take home

              Defensive Strategy (1 hour)            

Day 3 -  Defensive Strategy (9 hours)       8:00am-1:00 (lunch 1-3) 3:00-7:00pm

              Hitting  (introduce at end)

Day 4 -  Hitting  (5 hours)                        8:30am-12:30 (lunch 12:30-2) 2:00 – 6:00pm

              Practice  (3 hours)

Day 5 -  Practice (2 hours)              8:00am – Noon (8-10:30 instruction)

INSTRUCTORS:    ALL THREE (3) COACHING COLLEGES TO BE CONDUCTED IN 2005

                                    WILL BE CONDUCTED BY THE SAME THREE (3) INSTRUCTORS:

SHARON DRYSDALE:

-          director of the National Fastpitch Coaches College and has developed all the course content

-          Former Head Coach at Northwestern guiding the Wildcats to five Big 10 titles in 19 seasons. Named the Big Ten Coach of the Year three times, her career record ended at 590-428-3, when she retired in 2001. She led Northwestern to three consecutive Women's College World Series from 1984-86.

-          Prior to Northwestern, Drysdale was Head Coach at University of  Kansas.

JOHN TSCHIDA:

-          In ten years of college coaching, John Tschida has won two national titles and his .819 winning percentage is No. 2 all-time in Division III softball.

-          Tschida led St. Mary's to the 2000 NCAA Division III championship, and in 2004 led the University of St. Thomas to a Division III national title.

-          Tschida and his assistants were named 2004 Speedline/NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year for NCAA Division III.

-          As a men’s Fastpitch player, Tschida is a three-time ASA Class "A" All-American and led the DMS Knights to the 1998 Class "A" national title.

LINDA WELLS:

-          Linda Wells has led Arizona State  University to 11 NCAA regional appearances in 14 seasons as head coach

-          In 2002, Wells led ASU to the school's second appearance in the Women's College World Series, finishing third, the best in school history. That same season, Wells also achieved a milestone few coaches experience by winning her 800th game.

-          In 2004, she was Head Coach of the Greek Olympic Softball Team in the Athens Olympic Games.
