REGIONAL COACH IN RESIDENCE – SOUTH EAST

BaseballSoftballUK is recruiting for a suitable individual to help drive forward the development of baseball and softball in the Greater London Region.

-         Can you mentor a wide range of baseball and softball coaches, deliver coach education courses and plan and deliver a variety of player and coach clinics?

-         Do you relish a challenge, have patience in abundance AND have good written and verbal communication skills?

-         Are you a dynamic, organised and conscientious ‘self starter’?

If you think you fit the bill and you have the ambition and commitment to help our sports progress, we look forward to hearing from you!

JOB PURPOSE

As the regional Coach-in-Residence, you will be in the front line of development to clubs, coaches and development pathways within the region.  The role involves supporting player recruitment, player development, club development and accreditation, coach mentoring and coach education.

THE JOB

The role is an enabling, supporting, advising and influencing one.  Typically your work programme will include: club and league coach development, coach education, coach and player clinics, embedding and establishing equality in programmes you are involved with and preparation of articles and reports on your work.

You will be training and mentoring both local club coaches within existing club environments and other coaches in development pathways set up by BaseballSoftballUK, including youth and adult baseball and softball.

You will also deliver coach education courses, where necessary and relevant, to at least Level 2 standard across all three disciplines (baseball, slowpitch softball and fastpitch softball).  You will also plan and deliver player and coach clinics within club, college and community settings.  You will meet different people and organisations and most importantly you will be supporting the baseball and softball communities within the recognised structures of BSUK.

An important aspect of the role is building and supporting school-club links in order to effectively build development pathways into clubs and to boost player recruitment.

Your other responsibilities will involve providing technical and general articles for BSUK media as requested; incorporating Equity and Child Protection into development delivery and ensuring relevant targets are met.  In addition you will undertake a programme of continuous professional development as agreed with the National Development Manager.

You will also contribute to the development of national coaching and instructional models.  You will take part in collecting information on clubs, administrators, coaches and players.

You will also provide support for all BSUK programmes when needed and advise and assist clubs’ development strategies.

THE PERSON

As well as the more formal skills and experiences detailed on the Person Specification below, you will need to be an outgoing, presentable baseball and/or softball enthusiast.  You will have or will quickly develop a positive attitude to ‘multi-tasking’ as you will be constantly juggling a varied workload.  A ‘self starter’ who can handle a heavy work programme with set targets to achieve, you will need to be committed to working long hours including many evenings and some weekends.

The role is challenging and demanding – a lot will be expected of you by the local baseball and softball community and by BaseballSoftballUK.
