JOB PURPOSE
To initiate and co-ordinate baseball and softball
development in the region in accordance with the BaseballSoftballUK Whole Sport
Plan. Key work areas include: company, club and league development, school club
links, volunteer support, facility development and communication.
THE JOB
The job involves initiating and co-ordinating the
development of baseball and softball in the region. The job is to oversee the delivery of the development plans in
the region. As a part of the Regional
Development Team, you will be working closely with the Regional
Coach-in-Residence and Import / Envoy Coaches.
You will be running recruitment activities for
local programmes, including delivery of the development ladder activities. Key to this will be establishing a
relationship with County Sports Partnerships, Schools Sports Coordinators,
local authorities, activity camps, sports centres, local businesses and
individual schools / teachers.
You will be working with a wide range of existing
member volunteers, clubs and leagues and will be working with a number of them
to become accredited organisations.
Key to your role will be working to set up adult
coed (mixed men and women) slowpitch softball play. Ideally this will involve working with local companies to set up
recreational leagues. You will also be
establishing youth girls programmes, under-16yrs local leagues and Play Ball
League.
Additional duties will include supporting other
corporate softball activities, providing administrative support for the Import
/ Envoy Coach programmes, researching and developing additional income streams
and funding sources, supporting winter indoor activities and implementing
BSUK's Volunteer Recruitment Policy within the region.
You will be the regional coordinator of forums for
the members, the collection of Key Performance Indicators and will contribute
to the development of regional delivery plans.
You will also provide support for all BSUK
programmes when needed and advise and assist clubs’ development strategies.
THE PERSON
As well as the more formal skills and experiences
detailed on the Person Specification below, you will need to be an outgoing,
presentable baseball and/or softball enthusiast. You will have or will quickly develop a positive attitude to
‘multi-tasking’ as you will be constantly juggling a varied workload. A ‘self starter’ who can handle a heavy work
programme with set targets to achieve, you will need to be committed to working
long hours including many evenings and some weekends.
The role is challenging and demanding - a lot will
be expected of you by the local baseball and softball community and BSUK.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
Fixed term contract from October 2007 to 31
March 2010.
Salary £19k - £21.5k p.a.
Arrangements for a base will be negotiated
individually. You will be expected to work in the North West Region of England
but may also be expected to contribute to national events.
You will be responsible to the National Development
Manager and as a key member of the Development team, work with the Regional
Development Officer, other CIRs and Import/Temporary coaches. You will work
with a variety of staff and volunteers in our organisation, the British Baseball
and Softball Federations and partners, specifically in relation to club
development and school-club links.
Travel expenses will be paid for business mileage
and the post is subject to a car allowance.

is the development agency for baseball and softball in the UK, working on the
promotion and development of the two sports. We are a small organisation with
fifteen full-time employees and a friendly working environment.
BaseballSoftballUK is primarily
funded by Sport England.
