Instructor: Pavel Prachar, European Development Facilitator
Attendants: Players and coaches of new Women´s National Team
There is no competition, no coaches, only some baseball – few teams. They want to start junior competition for girls with donated equipment and they are building womens national team from players of “pesäpallo” (finish national and popular sport similar to softball or baseball) and participate on European Championship B-pool in Prague in August 2005. They need clinic for coaches/teachers, help to promote softball, probably more equipment for schools.
Comments:
The
players are good athletes as their game (pesäpallo) is quite similar. They can
throw, catch and field, even hitting is not that new for them. It is very nice
to work with them, they can catch other countries very quickly.
The major problem is pitching – that is only very new skill to learn.
Just
like many other european countries they consider softball as a womens sport.
It needs general promotion and support of
both boys and girls especially in school program.
In
general it is great to work with good athletes they have and I am sure they have
potential to play good softball within Europe quickly.
Future: I would suggest to repeat the clinic in several months, latest before next season to follow-up and make sure, they learn properly.
